SHE Trades Philippines – Great Britain Export Handbook Launch: Empowering Filipino Women Entrepreneurs

On March 27, 2025, the Embassy of the United Kingdom in the Philippines hosted the official launch of the SHE Trades Philippines – Great Britain Export Handbook. The prestigious event was led by Ambassador Laure Baeufis and featured a distinguished lineup of speakers and attendees dedicated to enhancing trade opportunities for Filipino entrepreneurs, particularly women-led businesses.

The keynote address was delivered by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Cristina Roque, who underscored the significance of the handbook as a vital resource for businesses seeking to expand into the British market. Women’s Business Council Philippines (WomenBizPH) Chairperson Rosemarie Rafael also delivered a message of support, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to empowering women in trade. Their presence highlighted the council’s strong backing of initiatives aimed at strengthening women’s participation in international trade.

The SHE Trades Philippines – Great Britain Export Handbook provides a comprehensive guide to key regulatory compliance requirements essential for businesses entering the UK market. Among its crucial features are:

  • Understanding the UK Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS) for preferential tariff rates
  • Essential compliance requirements to prepare businesses for export
  • Information on sales contracts, Harmonized System (HS) codes, and Incoterms
  • Important customs clearance documentation
  • Sustainability certifications necessary for market entry

The handbook is designed to serve as a practical export procedure guide, particularly for entrepreneurs in the agriculture, processed agri-food, and fishery sectors. It aims to facilitate smoother entry into British markets by ensuring businesses are well-informed and adequately prepared for regulatory requirements.

The launch event was attended by key stakeholders from the Philippine Food Processing Association, PhilWen, DTI – Export Marketing Bureau, and the International Trade Center (ITC). Their participation signified a collective effort to support the growth and global expansion of Philippine businesses.

This initiative represents a significant step in bridging trade opportunities between the Philippines and the United Kingdom, ensuring that Filipino women entrepreneurs have the knowledge and resources they need to succeed in international markets.
