ICT as a Powerful Tool to Advance Women’s Economic Participation

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Women and the Economy Fora 2015 conducts the “Seminar on Empowering Women through ICT for Inclusive Growth”, exploring how women entrepreneurs can utilize information and communications technology (ICT) to start or expand their business. The seminar is part of the APEC Multi-Year Project (MYP) “Innovation for Women and Economic Development” being implemented by Chinese Taipei since May 2013. One of the highlights of the seminar was the presentation of the outcomes of the second phase of the project in order to increase awareness of women entrepreneurs’ needs on ICT-based learning and the utilization of ICT tools. The participants, composed of government representatives of APEC member economies, women entrepreneurs, ICT service providers and people from the academe, engaged in a breakout session focused on four key areas: Capacity Building and Training, Entrepreneurship, Infrastructures, and Public-Private Partnership. The Seminar is co-organized by the Philippines through the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Chinese-Taipei through the Ministry of Gender Equality.
